Introduction
British Engineering Productions Ltd (BEP) is an engineering manufacturing company, working within the Fluid Power Industry. The company was started in 1946 when it was located behind Portsmouth and Southsea railway station, operating as car motor engineers and sub-contractors to the Ministry of Defence

BEP's great strength over the years has been the ability to diversify and change product type, depending on market trends. It was this strategy, which led BEP into their present industry - Fluid Power and becoming a part of The West Group of Companies in 1980.

Hydraulic Manifolds
Presently BEP is reputed to be the largest manufacturer of Hydraulic Manifold blocks within the United Kingdom. Among the many different manifolds supplied to customers have been specials the size of a matchbox to those weighing as much as 2 tonnes. In terms of prestigious projects, BEP manifolds have been used on the Channel Tunnel boring machine, wind farms for generating electricity, many a West End stage production and the offshore industry.

While most of BEP's manufacturing output is devoted to the Fluid Power industry, the company also supply a competitive service for the provision of machined components to the nuclear, defence, offshore, and other sophisticated markets which demand a high level of quality and service.

Custom Manifold Design
BEP can offer a full in-house manifold design capability to our customers, utilising the very latest in computerised technology.

From a customer's hydraulic circuit and layout we can produce a fully detailed manifold drawing ready for production. Prior to manufacture the drawing is sent to the customer for approval to ensure that the finished design is how he envisaged.

The Company recognises the establishing of an industry standard format in the use of AutoCad and uses this exclusively to design manifolds. A manifold checking program is used to ensure that the 'cross-drilling wall thickness' has been maintained throughout the design of the manifold.

Custom Manifold Manufacture
The Company has continually invested in new machining centres to maintain its number one position.

BEP's most recent acquisition is a Fastem's Flexible Pallets System. This 36 pallet system connects two Mazak CNC Machining Centres together to create a full FMS production facility.

We also recognised the importance of developing new machining methods. This has resulted in the purchasing of roller burnishing tools to improve the quality and efficiency of NG16 through to NG63 valve cavities.

The number of years the Company has been producing manifolds has allowed us to purchase a wide range of special cavity tooling for various valve manufactures. These include Denison Hydraulics, Integrated Hydraulics, Sterling Hydraulics, Sun Hydraulics, Bosch-Rexroth, and Eaton.

The Company has taken advantage offered by new technology such as 'Material Resource Planning' (MRP). We have implemented a bar code based system for tracking jobs throughout manufacture, allowing our Engineers to offer fast and accurate information to Customers.

The Company has developed a dedicated Manifold Estimating Program, which calculates consistent pricing to Customers and the ability to quickly assess the most cost effective machining centre for producing a manifold

Facilities
The machine shop is comprehensively equipped enabling us to produce a wide variety of items from small pins to the largest of manifold blocks.

· Power Degreasing and Washing

Assembly
The assembly room includes a contamination free clean area, imperative when assembling fluid power components. We can cater for the smallest sub-assembly to the largest hydrostatic test rig.

Sales Area
BEP's experienced Sales Engineers cover Northern Europe and Scandinavia as well as the United Kingdom. They are available to discuss your requirements and offer technical assistance and proposals to meet customer's needs.


Quality
BEP is approved to ISO 9001; therefore all our customers can be assured of the highest quality implicit in the granting of such an approval. BEP believes that quality is assured during the manufacture process by the correct selection of machine and cutting tools in association with pre-manufacture planning. This policy is sustained by a process of continual assessment, up-grading and/or replacement, by the latest technology, of all equipment that contributes to Quality Assurance.
